A Washington Native, John is a self taught guitar player and songwriter of 20 years. Until recently, John's music was only shared with unwilling neighbors and obligated family. John says: "... life experiences and convictions framed with words and symphony reach out to engage the unbeliever and the zealots and endeavors to strike the chord they lost, are hiding or never knew they had. Compositions written with uneasy thought provoking lyrics that will make you remember why you wanted to forget it , with playful sensual sonatas that tantalize those hushed unspoken desires, with harmonies struck in entrancing rhythmic soulful posh that if you have it, you will shake it." Appropriately playing on St Patrick's Day (Fri, March 17th) at Gargoyle’s in Stanwood, Under a Blood Red Sky is Camano Island's own tribute to the music of U2. One of only a handful of bands to achieve consistent commercial and critical success spanning more than 2 decades, U2 has charted its success on its own terms. From the band's earliest days in Dublin, Ireland to the present, U2 has broken free from the traditional limitations of what a rock band - and rock music - could and couldn't do. By combining an original sound with honest lyrics and a challenging social message, U2 has earned the respect of their peers and critics, and an almost fanatical following of fans around the world. Although still in its infancy, Under a Blood Red Sky (Bill Cunningham on vocals, David Forte on guitar, Mike Murphy on bass, and Robert Papke on drums) is a band dedicated to providing the U2 sound for both the dedicated and casual fan.
