  • The Museum, D.O. Pearson House, and the new Performance Hall will be open to the public during the Block Party.

  • See the plans and models for the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, and take a docent-guided historical bus tour of Stanwood.

  • Free makeovers by Mary Kay consultants.

Our Master of Ceremonies is Rich Crouch, Utsalady Elementary School Music Teacher, Musical Director for Sky Theatre, and all-around good guy.

4:00 pm - Bahia - This Latin jazz band originated on South Whidbey Island, Washington, in 1997. The name (pronounced bah-EE-ah) means bay in Spanish, and is the name of an especially musical state in Brazil. The Bahia playlist runs the gamut from Antonio Carlos Jobim, Louis Bonfi and John Coltrane to Charlie Parker and Josef Zawinul, among other jazz greats. There's something for everyone. When it's time to dance, Bahia turns up the heat with Latin jazz that gets audiences on their feet. Bahia is Dan Richman (percussion), Gary Way (piano), Dale "Manolito" Fuentes (flute), Roger Bennett (percussion), Greg Barnes (bass), and Mike Smith (percussion). 3:00 pm - Nadine Shanti - Born and raised in New Orleans, Nadine spent years perfecting her performance techniques while completing her degrees in music in Louisiana and Illinois. A move to Seattle in 1980 launched a career as a pop/jazz artist that included work in the Pacific Northwest and overseas in Japan, Okinawa and Indonesia. She released her first CD of original songs, entitled "Down Home" in 1999. As a songwriter she began performing throughout the U.S. in concerts in Washington, Tennessee, Montana, Illinois and Louisiana. Innovative and versatile, Nadine has performed as a guest artist with the Everett Symphony, for the World Trade Center - Seattle, and for the benefit of the Wenatchee Valley Symphony. She also co-wrote and starred in a "Tribute to Duke Ellington" for Vocalist and Swing Orchestra in regional jazz festivals and cabarets. Click here to connect to Nadine's Web site.

2:00 pm - Bob Christensen & Friends - Singer-songwriter Bob Christensen has shared his heartfelt stories with Bob and Ms. Epiphone appreciative audiences in six Western states and Hawaii. Bob's music is a mixture of folk and 99% twang-free country music, with an emphasis on good stories and compelling melodies. Performing original songs along with cover tunes by such diverse artists as The Lovin' Spoonful, Tom Paxton, and Guy Clark, Bob has a knack for finding great songs. Rear View, Bob's CD on Big Quack Records has been released just in time for the festival. Bob's band  at the Block Party includes local musicians Mark Dodge, Kevin Miller, and Roger Ludwick. 1:00 pm - The Dunton Sisters - (bluegrass) From the "hills" of Anacortes, the Dunton Sisters have been turning heads (and ears!) around the Northwest since 1990. In their travels to North Carolina and Nashville, the Duntons have also gained the recognition and respect of some of the biggest names in bluegrass, including the legendary Tony Rice and bluegrass icon Ralph Stanley, who commented, "Boy, I tell you, these girls can sing, can't they!" The Dunton Sisters, Jen and Bev, are accompanied by their mother, Gae, as well as Bryan Thurber on fiddle and Mike Savatgy on banjo.

12:00 noon - The Stilly River Bluegrass Band - Performing together for  more than 16 years, including an appearance at last year's Stanwood Camano Music Festival, the Stilly River Band delivers an exciting range of music, from bluegrass to progressive folk, Latin, Irish, rock and rhythm 'n blues. Their bluegrass arrangement of Sam & Dave's soul classic, Hold On, I'm Comin' will put a smile on your face for the rest of the day. Instrumentation features banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, accordion and upright bass, all performed accoustically.

11:00am - The Smilin' Scandinavians (Scandinavian folk dance music) - Billed as "Western Washington's Full-Service Polka Band," the Smilin' Scandinavians were founded in 1975 by bandleader Toby Hansen, originally comprising students of the prestigious Cornish College of the Arts. With a name inspired by Myron Floren ("the Happy Norwegian") and his band, the Six Fat Dutchmen, the Smilin' Scandinavians will put a smile on your face and a tap in your toe, playing the world's happiest music.
